Description: The Welsh Springer Spaniel is a medium sized, compact dog with a beautiful red and white silky coat. This is an ancient breed likely to have ancestors that date back to 7000 B.C. The Welsh Springer Spaniel was originally bred to spring game. They are also very good retrievers and with slightly webbed feet - great water dogs. Welsh Springer Spaniels have a lot of energy, endurance and a superb sense of smell. In addition, they are happy to work long days and can easily maneuver any type of terrain - all traits which make this breed an excellent hunting dog.

Welsh Springer Spaniels were imported to the United States in the late 1800s and were recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1906.

Height: The average height for a female Welsh Springer Spaniel when measured at withers is 17 - 18 inches (43 - 46 cm) and 18 - 19 inches (46 - 48 cm) for a male.

Weight: The average weight for female Welsh Springer Spaniel is 35 - 50 pounds (16 - 23 kg) and 40 - 55 pounds (18 - 25 kg) for a male.

Coat Type : The Welsh Springer Spaniel's coat is dense with a silky texture and is either straight or flat. Grooming of the coat is minimal - regularly brush and bathe only when necessary. The Welsh Springer Spaniel's coat is said to be 'self-cleaning'. Average shedder.

Color: The color of the Welsh Springer Spaniel's coat can be any pattern of rich red and white.
